Popular Web+Center Help Desk Product now supports Linux platform

Internet Software Sciences has announced the availability their suite of Web+Center products now operational under Linux. This is version 4.5 which formerly was only available under certain Windows-based operating systems. It has been re-engineered to now operate under Linux with the same set of features that were previously only available under Windows.

Web+Center comprises four integrated web-based applications that cover business domains such as CRM, Help-Desk, Case Management, Asset Tracking, Knowledge-base Support, and Scheduling. Besides supporting conventional desk-top browsers, it also provides a special web interface optimized for use by Pocket PC’s and similar devices that have limited screen size and/or operate in a wireless environment for use by roving help-desk technicians.

The demand for support of this product on inexpensive Linux-based platforms has been growing steadily said a company spokesman. The combination of a robust product, released in source form to allow adaptation and deeper integration with other enterprise applications, has already proved its popularity according to the spokesman and having it now available under Linux responds to a number of clients’ requests.

This reduces the cost of ownership considerably, not only through the increase in reliability, but also less dependence on system administrators for constant security patches and similar maintenance chores, and wide availability of very cost-effective platforms, including remote-hosting by ISP’s.

The cost model for Web+Center is also innovative, and aimed at small to medium organizations. It is available free via download for evaluation and/or production for organizations with up to three Help-desk seats. A modest license fee, on a stepped scale, is charged for extra seats. Our target is to enable a new customer to install and come on-line in production within hours or days rather than weeks or months" said the spokesman and to deliver a total cost of ownership that is a small fraction compared to that of our primary competitors.

The Web+Center for Linux product provides a turn-key Help Desk product but offers endless customization options by providing the full source code designed to run on Sun’s One Active Server Pages ASP Engine and an open database architecture using MySQL as the backend database.
